A New Kind of CDN for WordPress

Here at Pressjitsu we had support for third-party CDN services from the very beginning, but during these past few months, we’ve been working hard on something more than just a CDN for our customers.

If you’re not familiar with the term CDN (Content Delivery Network) — it’s simply a way to serve data from a location that is closest to the client requesting it, cutting down on distance and latency. This is especially effective with images, JavaScript and CSS files.

But we think that distance and latency is only half the problem. It’s still inefficient to transmit large files, even over a shorter distance, and this is why we’re launching a CDN with a built-in content optimization proxy:

Pressjitsu CDN

This proxy handles all kinds of things, including lossless or lossy compression of images, optimization of image dimensions, minification and concatenation of JavaScript and CSS files and more. Once a resource has been optimized, it is cached at the global CDN locations for future use.

Our initial tests have shown a 50% reduction of file sizes on average, without any loss in quality, and that’s pretty exciting! It’s also worth noting, that unlike many image optimization plugins for WordPress, our proxy performs all the hard work outside of the origin, which means there’s no additional load on your server, and your original files are never overwritten.

If you’re an existing Pressjitsu customer and would like to give our new CDN a try, please reach out to support. If you haven’t got an account yet, tell us about your project and we’ll be happy to sign you up.
